Welcome to Year 4, 2013! It is going to be an exciting year. We are starting the year in our amazing learning space.
I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year, with lots of special memories.
My family and I had the opportunity to travel to Western Australia to visit family. We put our car on the train and we flew over to Perth. We then had an amazing adventure driving home across the Nullarbor.
What did you do in the holidays? What is a special trip that you have been on?

Year 4 Farewell
This week has been a busy and eventful one with many things happening. It has been a wonderful opportunity to spend with the students that I have journeyed alongside this year. They have been a great bunch of kids, who have shown resilience and flexibility throughout the year. Our classroom changed into a learning space halfway through the year when a wall came down. They learnt to accept another teacher and other students within their learning environment. We had a few challenges in terms of how we work and learn together. These we talked about, laughed about and grew together.
On Wednesday as a way of saying farewell and for rewarding these great kids for such a fantastic year, we spent the day playing games. We played games such as sack races, water relays and a clothes relay.
That evening everyone came dressed in their best for the Year 4 Farewell. Each student brought guests. We had a very relaxed picnic dinner in front of our Sports Hall. Parton the evenings entertainment was a scavenger hunt and then dancing. It was a lovely evening.
It was a wonderful way to say farewell and best wishes!

Middle School Orientation
Year 4 is a special year in Mount Annan Christian College. It is the last year that students are part of the Junior School. In Year 5, our students move to the Middle School part of our campus where they start the process of getting used to having diaries and timetables in preparation for High School.
Over the last few weeks, students have been preparing for this change. They have attended classes in Middle School and met the teachers that will teach Year 5 next year. They participated in an Orientation Morning. Parents attended the information session, where Mrs Gray discussed the many changes that students had to look forward to. Each student recieved a pack that contained lots of information that will help them know what to expect in Middle School.
After a great recess, students were placed in teams. Each of the teams were given team leaders from Year 7 where they completed the Amazing Race around Middle School. Each team had to work through a series of clues and work out the mystery sentence. What a great way to get to know their way around!
Orientation Day finished with a delicious sausage sizzle. It was a great time to reflect over the day and the information they recieved during the day, but everyone agreed it had been a great time.
There will be much excitement and maybe a few nervous twinges as each student prepares for this next phase of school. It is with much pride, best wishes and prayers that each student is sent with, as each venture into Middle School.

WOLF!
As part of learning about Narrative writing, Year 4 collaborated on retelling the story of "The boy who cried Wolf!". It was a great opportunity to talk about using descriptive language and how to use speech marks in our writing. We hope that you like it, even though it is not quite finished...
Barry was so lonely and bored that he tried to entertain himself by singing and performing circus tricks, because he had wanted to join the circus. The sheep were annoyed by his singing and did not think that his tricks were great either.
There was once a young boy named Barry who was a shepherd, sitting on a
rock with a crook. He wore a red
checkered hat on top of his black hair. He also wore a yellow waistcoat. He was bored and lonely.
The snow
white sheep were grazing in the fields and they were discussing Barry’s feelings.
They were up on a hill away from the town.Barry was so lonely and bored that he tried to entertain himself by singing and performing circus tricks, because he had wanted to join the circus. The sheep were annoyed by his singing and did not think that his tricks were great either.
Barry decided to make things more exciting by
shouting, “WOLF!”
The townspeople came running with sticks and stones
saying, “Let’s go and save Barry and his flock.”
When they got there, they found no wolf. They were
confused at first and then became angry. Then the townspeople went home grumbling that Barry had
fooled them.
Barry was still lonely so he cried, “Wolf!” again. The
townspeople came jogging up to the field but found no wolf again! They became
very grumpy and annoyed with him.
What do you think of our story so far? Can you suggest how the rest of the story goes? What should Barry do next?
Please let us know we would love to hear any suggestions that you might have.
